International English Training

International English Training (IET) is an English language program designed to help adult students improve their English skills for a variety of purposes, including:

  • Succeeding in an American college or university
  • Increasing business success
  • Traveling in the United States
  • Communicating with English-speaking friends

International English Training (IET) provides a supportive environment where adults can learn English while experiencing American culture. The program has small class sizes and year-round study opportunities. It offers conversational and academic English courses. Students can begin at any time and can easily transfer to one of many local colleges. IU 13 has the resources to help students find housing and other local services.

Program Information

Directions to and address for the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13.

Eligibility - The school is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students. All students must be a high school graduate or at least 17 years old to enroll in the program. Part-time study opportunities are available for individuals who are not using a student visa.

Health Insurance - Students are strongly encouraged  to purchase health insurance before traveling to the United States. Please call (717) 606-1708 or email international_english@iu13.org to request a list of  health insurance options.

Housing - IET does not provide housing for its students. However, a list of local rental, host family, and international student housing options is available. Please call (717) 606-1708 or email international_english@iu13.org for details.

Location - IET is located one mile from Lancaster City and five miles from the farmlands of Pennsylvania's "Amish Country." The area has a unique blend of culture, history, and rural and city living, while being within driving distance of major cities like Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, and Washington, D.C.

Referrals - Current and former IET students who refer new students to our program should complete a referral form. To show our appreciation, IET will send the current/former student a monetary gift after the new student starts IET classes. When completing an application form, new students need to name who referred them to IET.

Supportive Services - IET provides these low-cost services:

  • Support for new students
  • One-on-one tutoring
  • Document editing
  • Assistance with choosing a university

IET offers 18 hours a week of English language learning opportunities in a small class environment, including:

  • Conversational and academic English classes
  • Field trips
  • TOEFL preparation
