Approximately four out of ten workers in Pennsylvania lack the basic skills needed to keep up with the demands of today's workplace. As the complexity of information and technology increases in the workplace, adults require additional training to keep pace. IU 13’s Workforce Education Programs can help bridge the gap between worker skills and 21st Century workplace demands.

IU 13 offers employers customized, on-site, education and training programs for incumbent workers. Onsite instructors can expand, develop, and improve employee job skills -- ensuring that workers function effectively and efficiently in today's global economy.

Training can be conveniently scheduled at your facility or at The Conference and Training Center at IU 13.

The Workforce Education Unit offers:

• A free initial consultation,
• Customized needs assessment to help identify and prioritize training needs,
• On-site education and training solutions,
• Information about public dollars that may be available to support training, and
• Training evaluation and performance improvement consultation.

Frequently requested training solutions:

English as a Second Language - targeted instruction is available to help workers with limited English language skills improve communication skills in the workplace. 

Foundation Skills – training is designed for employees who need to acquire, or brush up on, basic skills such as math, reading comprehension, workplace communication, problem-solving and technical writing.

GED Preparation – training sessions are designed for individuals who desire to obtain a GED Certificate or review high school material prior to attending a college or university program.

Workplace Spanish Instruction - the goal of this training is to help managers and others communicate more effectively with Spanish-speaking employees. Common workplace language is emphasized and participants are encouraged to bring specific communication issues to class.
