Safe Schools Focus Group
This service provides a forum for school districts, hospitals, emergency first responders, police, and local and state emergency management agencies in Lancaster and Lebanon Counties to collaboratively discuss security issues, procedures and plans for preventing and handling emergencies.

School-Based Mental Health
This program provides targeted services and interventions for at-risk students. Individuals are referred for assessment and counseling. Referrals may be based on academic, behavioral, or emotional need. Services are available in Spanish and English.

School Improvement Services and Data Analysis - Consultation/Technical Assistance
IU 13 provides on-site and center-based assistance for data analysis and development of School (and District) Improvement Plans.

IU 13 provides the design and investigation of tools, products, and programs to help schools and districts increase student achievement.

IU 13 provides on-site, local, and regional training on instructional, assessment and curricular best practices to increase student achievement.

School-to-Work Program
This service provides community-based training in real work settings. The purpose is for high school students to learn self-determination and functional academics, and to establish linkages to adult service agencies.

Science (K-12) Consortia Services
Through this service, IU 13 coordinates the Math/Science Consortium, a regional consortium with the purpose of partially or fully funding the work of the Science Steering Committee and Points of Contact. This includes, but is not limited to, development and implementation of regional professional development opportunities. The compelling purpose of consortium projects is to build local capacity of educators to continuously improve student achievement through professional development programs, and product and tool development.

Science (K-12) Consultation/Technical Assistance
Through this service, IU 13 provides consultation/technical assistance at the request of individual school districts, such as: Enhancing Standards-Aligned Science Education Systems; and Best Practices in Science Curriculum, Assessment, & Instruction.

Science (K-12) Points of Contact: Regional Networking/Learning Community Structure
Through this service, elementary representatives from each of the 22 school districts and IU 13 work together to: keep abreast of the most current information from PDE and science professional organizations, and share that information back in their home districts; serve as a collaborative resource for regional professional development activities; engage in collegial professional development activities and assist with building capacity in home schools/districts. Focus groups are formed as necessary. Activities are partially or fully funded by the IU 13 Math/Science Consortium.

Science (K-12) Regional/Professional Development
Through this service, IU 13 provides professional development opportunities for all 22 school districts and nonpublic schools in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and instruction. Services are partially or fully funded by the IU 13 Math/Science Consortium.

Secondary Emotional Support Program
This program serves middle school and high school students who demonstrate learning or behavioral challenges due to emotional reasons. Academics, including communication, pro-social skills and self-monitoring strategies, are stressed.

Secondary Enrichment Experience (SEE) for Gifted Students

Secondary Life Skills
This program serves middle and high school students with cognitive delays. Classes emphasize applied and functional academics, social skills, self-care, and vocational skills. Application and generalization to real-life settings occur through community-based instruction.

Secondary Literacy Points of Contact Meetings
This service provides a forum for local middle and high school literacy education leaders and IU 13 representatives to discuss current information from the Pennsylvania Department of Education and U.S. Department of Education regarding secondary literacy, new curriculum materials, and developing structures that will enhance district/school capacity.

Social Skills Group Instruction
This service provides school districts with Social Skills group instruction to enhance the social and emotional development of students.

Social Studies Professional Development Opportunities
Through this service, IU 13 provides regional professional development opportunities for social studies teachers.

Social Summary
This service provides school districts with a summary of a student’s home and family background, and includes a summary of school experiences, birth history, medical information, treatment information and current status of the student. The interview can be conducted in Spanish or English.

Spanish Document Translation
This service provides written translation of special education documents for the Spanish-speaking families of any child with an IEP, whether in IU 13 or district programs.

Spanish Interpretation Services
This service provides verbal interpretation to Spanish-speaking families at special education meetings. This is available for the parents of any child with an IEP, whether he or she receives IU 13 or district special education services.

Special Education Administrators’ Retreat
This annual retreat provides school district and IU 13 special education administrators with an opportunity to network and attend sessions on current issues in special education.

Special Education District Administrators’ Meetings
This service provides a forum for local, state or national updates in the field of special education and allows for roundtable discussion and planning for local special education needs across Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.

This service provides investigations for purposes of workers’ compensation, illness, harassment or other human resources legal action.

Statewide Software Discount Program
The Lancaster-Lebanon IU 13 Statewide Software Discount Program serves school districts across Pennsylvania by providing the opportunity to purchase quality software licenses at significantly discounted pricing. The selection includes instructional software, virus protection software, and basic desktop software packages from popular software companies. Microsoft extends selected discounted programs to Pennsylvania school employees and students for personal purchases as part of this program.

Strategic Instruction Model Training Sessions
This service provides trainings in learning strategies, especially reading and writing strategies, with a Strategic Instruction Model Professional Developer certified by the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning.

Student Bazaars (Holiday and Spring)
The Student Bazaars, offer students in IU 13 and district-operated “School-to-Work/Transition Services” programs with an established classroom “mini-business” the opportunity to showcase and sell their handmade products to the public. The event is also an opportunity to promote the occupation of handicrafts and to teach students basic work skills, marketing, advertising and selling. The event is held two times a year in Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.

Student Data Tracking - Excent-Tera Online
This service provides an online special education paperwork management system that allows teachers, psychologists and therapists to create, maintain and update evaluation reports, Individual Education Plans (IEPs), and progress monitoring reports for individual students in need of special education services.

This service provides advanced training for all district substitute teachers on various topics, such as classroom management, verbal de-escalation techniques, etc.

This service provides an opportunity for networking for district superintendents’ secretaries and a forum for discussion regarding educational initiatives and updates.
