Featured Workshop Leader:
Dr. Judith Harris, William & Mary School of Education
Judi Harris is a professor and the Pavey Family Chair in Educational Technology in the School of Education at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, USA, where she coordinates the Curriculum and Educational Technology doctoral program. Her research focuses upon the development of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK); strategies for curriculum-based educational technology professional development; and telementoring, including professional learning and support for new teachers online.
She has authored more than 225 articles/chapters/papers and 5 books on curriculum-based telecomputing and professional development for teachers in educational technology. Her "activity structures" method of designing and implementing curriculum-based telecollaborative and teleresearch learning activities, first published in 1993, is used by K-12 teachers and teacher educators worldwide. She and colleague Mark Hofer have recently adapted this approach for use in particular curriculum content areas and with the full range of digital and nondigital educational technologies. They are currently researching this curriculum-based "learning activity types" approach to technology integration with both experienced and preservice teachers.
Judi presents sessions regularly at state, national, and international educational computing and research conferences. Her nonprofit Electronic Emissary (http://emissary.wm.edu/) curriculum-based telementoring service, begun in 1992, is the longest-running K-12 effort of its kind, and has served students and teachers worldwide.
