IU 13 offers supplemental induction sessions for new public school teachers. New teachers should follow their district's policies for meeting induction requirements. Nonpublic school teachers are also invited to attend.
All sessions are held from 4:30 PM until 7:45 PM at The Conference and Training Center at IU 13, 1020 New Holland Avenue, Lancaster, PA 17601. A light dinner is served at each session.
Act 48 hours are available for individual sessions.
Registration Process
Teachers are required to register online for each session. Please contact the district Superintendent's Office for information about online registration policies/procedures. Districts are billed for each session/registrant. Registrants who withdraw more than one (1) week prior to the session will not be billed.

Session # 1 – School Law Issues for New Teachers

Description: Participants in this session will explore the six components of PA’s Standards Aligned Systems: 1) Clear Standards, 2) Fair Assessments, 3) Aligned Curriculum Framework, 4) Evidence-based Instruction, 5) Aligned Materials and Resources, and 6) Targeted Interventions. Registrants should bring instructional planning materials for a current or future lesson plan. The focus for this session will be planning for teaching and learning in a standards-aligned system.

Description: All students in PA classrooms are not only entitled to equal access to the standards-aligned curriculum with a content-strong teacher leading their learning but also required to demonstrate that they have learned. This session will focus on practical tips and strategies for meeting the needs of diverse learners in the classroom. Emphasis will be placed on understanding the five levels of language acquisition and expand on the nine categories of research-based instructional strategies first identified in Classroom Instruction that Works (Marzano, Pickering, & Pollock, 2001).

Description: Aligned and fair assessments are a component of the PA Standards Aligned Systems. In this session, participants will explore four different categories of assessments (summative, formative, benchmark, and diagnostic) and their uses for making data informed instructional decisions. SAS Portal tools to strengthen aligned and rigorous assessments local assessments will be explored. An overview of Pennsylvania Data Tools (i.e. paayp.com, PVAAS, e-Metric, 4-Sight, Curriculum Diagnostic Tool) will be provided.
