IU 13 continues to support and enhance the educational community's efforts to bring scientific-based/evidence-based research to district-wide literacy systems and classroom practices that enhance and increase student achievement.

Literacy Professional Development

Literacy Workshops and Institutes

Throughout the year, IU 13 offers professional development workshops featuring best practices in the various aspects of literacy. Comprehensive literacy institutes for the primary and intermediate grades are held each summer, offering local educators opportunities for intensive study with nationally and regionally known experts in the field of literacy.

On-Site, Customized Literacy  Professional Development

Literacy professional learning sessions are developed and delivered based upon district/school requests.
Sample topics include:

  • Administering, Analyzing and Using the DIBELS Data to Inform Instruction
  • Analyzing and Using 4 Sight Data for Instruction
  • Preparing for Response to Intervention
  • Comprehensive Literacy
  • Developing a Literacy Coaching Initiative

Literacy Consultation/Technical Assistance

Consultation/Technical Assistance at the request of individual schools and/or districts.

Reading Supervisor/Title I Coordinator Group

This service provides a forum for Reading Supervisors and Title I Coordinators  to work together to receive updates on federal and state mandates, examine pertinent literacy research, review programs and materials, and share district initiatives and successes.

Secondary Literacy Points of Contact

This service provides a forum for training, networking and collegial discussions about current secondary literacy topics and initiatives.  This teacher leadership group serves as a collaborative entity for regional and state professional development activities and supports in capacity building and sharing in home districts/schools.
