About the Position

The goal of the Assistant to the Superintendent position is to ensure the District meets its goals and objectives by promoting instructional alignment and school effectiveness, through the following essential functions:

School Effectiveness

  • Guides Directors and School Leaders to provide learning environments to achieve district objectives which enable every student to graduate college, career, and community ready

  • Ensures the consistent implementation of the practices across all schools which support district objectives

  • Coordinates and ensures the successful integration of evidence-based strategies to ensure the growth and success of all District schools

  • Formulates, plans, and implements mentoring and professional growth and development to assigned principals; develops and implements differentiated professional growth plans that include current, evidence-based practices; reviews and assesses the effectiveness and efficiency of professional development plans

  • Helps to select, develop, and evaluate Principals

  • Functions as a qualified observer of certificated staff inclusive of teachers and Principals

  • Supports Directors and School Leaders to assess the core competencies that teachers need to implement curriculum and deliver instruction

  • Works with Directors and School Leaders on the development of strategies that support the District objectives and key results

Central Office Effectiveness

  • Oversees the Offices of Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment, School Leadership, Special Education, and Student Services and ensures alignment in all services provided to schools by central office

  • Provides leadership as a member of a collaborative team to ensure that curriculum and instruction initiatives are student focused and aligned with the core curriculum

  • Ensures coordinated, excellent services are delivered to schools

  • Ensures the deployment of resources and intervention approaches to appropriately and effectively address challenges

  • Ensures the implementation of strategies to meet the District’s objectives and key results

  • Support administrative efficiency

  • Ensures that all functions and activities are executed in compliance with district policies and professional standards and local, state, and federal laws

  • Uses executive judgment to solve problems and manage crises

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develops effective working relationships with Principals and school stakeholders

  • Communicates clearly with principals, parents, and the community about the District’s mission and the goals and objectives

  • Actively engages with students, parents, and families to learn from them and support their needs

  • Responds to constituents’ concerns and serve as the liaison to schools, central offices, and community groups on matters related to instruction and school leadership

  • Advocates on behalf of school communities within the District’s central        administration

Timeline & Process

Once selected, the start date will be mutually determined between candidate and the School District of Lancaster.

Application Requirements: 

  • Must possess current PA Superintendent PK-12 Letter or ability to obtain
  • Master’s degree required, Doctorate preferred.
  • Verified successful administrative experience leading a high school.
  • Knowledge of applicable school law.
  • Successful applicants must pass extensive background checks as required by state and federal law.
