Apartment Project
The IU 13 Community-Based Apartment Project currently serves approximately 100 secondary students across 17 IU-operated classrooms. The project assists students with developing independent living skills while applying classroom instruction to a real-life setting. The apartment is located at Friendship Community in Ephrata, PA among a 40-unit apartment complex, 20 of which are currently rented to adults with disabilities. The size of the apartment is 650 square feet and accommodates four to five students at a time. This opportunity is presently available for students in IU 13 operated classrooms through the Secondary Life Skills Support, Basic Occupational Skills, Autistic Support and School-to-Work programs. School districts may also contract with IU 13 for access to the Apartment Project. As the demand grows, IU 13 hopes to offer additional facilities located throughout Lancaster and Lebanon counties.
