Perfectionism in Gifted and Talented Students - A Curse or a Blessing?
Monday, May 12, 2008
Registration: 12:45 p.m.
Meeting: 1:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m.
Networking: 3:00 p.m.–3:30 p.m.
Presenter: Linda Deal, Elementary Teacher of the Gifted, Penn Manor School District
Description: Everyone appreciates people who are responsible and go beyond the minimum expectations when fulfilling responsibilities. Why would you want anyone to do less than his or her best on any project? What is the price for the individual who:
- rips up a project because it is not perfect?
- spends hours completing an assignment that should take 20 minutes?
- will re-do the entire assignment when they have to erase something?
- will not participate in an event because they are not highly capable in those skills?
The presentation will encourage dialogue about strategies to help explain and cope with perfectionistic tendencies in gifted students, adults, and families.
