No Child Left Behind

teacher photo On January 8, 2002, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act was reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act, P.L. 107-110. The purpose of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is "...to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments."

Key elements of the Act include:

Creates strong standards and accountability for results
Provides for state and local flexibility
Reduces red tape
Focuses resources on research-based approaches
Expands choices for parents
