The Conestoga Valley School District school board has chosen a United States Air Force veteran with more than 21 years in education to become its new superintendent.

David Zuilkoski, currently a superintendent for Eastern Lebanon County School District in Myerstown, if approved, will replace Gerald Huesken, who is retiring after 19 years as Conestoga Valley’s superintendent, effective June 12.

“Dr. Zuilkoski is well-trained and positioned for this role,” school board President Merle Esh said in a statement. “He will take the time to understand our community, learn about our educational goals and work with our staff to honor our values of character, commitment and community.”

The school board worked with Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 to find a suitable candidate to replace Huesken, according to a press release.

Their collaborative work included “promoting the search, conducting community forums, reviewing surveys, vetting candidates, and guiding the board through the review and interview phases with applicants,” the release stated.

The Conestoga Valley school board will vote March 13 to approve a three-year employment contract with Zuilkoski.
