New scholarship for young, single parents available at HACC Lebanon
A new scholarship for young, single parents is available for people participating in certain workforce development programs at Harrisburg Area Community College's Lebanon Campus.
There will be up to $3,500 in scholarship money awarded to up to three Lebanon County residents thanks to a private bequest to the Lebanon County Home Economics Association, according to a news release. The scholarships are for workforce development programs at HACC Lebanon including medical billing and coding specialist, certified nurse aide, pharmacy technician, phlebotomy technician, physician office assistant, culinary arts and call center specialist.
“We want to help a young parent get into a career with an income that can sustain a family and lift them out of the cycle of poverty,” said Phyllis Conrad, a member of the LCHEA, in the news release.
In order to be eligible for the scholarship, a person must
Be a single parent between the ages of 17-25
Have adequate childcare provisions or be willing to participate in childcare available through community resources
Have unmet financial needs or not have other funding available to pay tuition
Be actively participating in one of the following programs: UPMC-Pinnacle Nurse-Family Partnership; Penn State Extension Nutrition Links; Mentor a Mother; IU 13’s Education Leading to Employment and Career Training (ELECT); Knights of the 21st Century; Child and Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP); Early Head Start; Lebanon Family Health Services parenting class; Lebanon Pregnancy Center parenting class; or a parenting class provided by another Lebanon County agency.
Recipients will have the tuition for the program paid directly to HACC, the news release said.
