Staff Honored as Social Worker of the Year


Ms. Cathy Hower Honored for Dedication to Students

Ms. Cathy Hower, an IU13 social worker, was named the Social Worker of the Year at the Pennsylvania School Social Work Personnel conference. Ms. Hower has dedicated her career to serving the needs of local students and families - with the past 30 years being at IU13. She is known for being an advocate for students with multiple disabilities and highly trusted by her peers and clients.

Over 120 social workers attended the conference on October 23, 2015, during which time Ms. Hower was recognized as the Social Worker of the Year. Hower received the award for her long-standing career as a social worker at the Lancaster-Lebanon IU13.  Her career has expanded 35 years of service. She began working in the child abuse unit at Lebanon Co Children and Youth Services before joining the IU13 team. Hower holds a Bachelor degree in social work and a Master’s equivalency in special education, both from Millersville State University.


About the PASSWP: PASSWP is a member run organization actively involved in the professional education of Home & School Visitors and School Social Workers in Pennsylvania. PASSWP works with the Department of Education, and other professional organizations, to stay on the cutting edge of trends in the field.  PASSWP is devoted to maintaining the highest possible standards for school social work personnel employed in our schools.  To that end, work with Schools of Social Work and programs that provide education and networking opportunities for social workers and home and school visitors.
