Year-Round Giving, Year-Round Thanks!
The “season of giving” goes well beyond December at IU13 thanks to the ongoing support of our generous community! This fall alone, hundreds of individuals, a local business, and a community organization were among those who stepped forward to be part of the proverbial “village” needed to support those served by IU13 classes and programs.
Removing Barriers for Refugees
In October, the Islamic Community Center of Lancaster (ICCL) donated a van to the Refugee Center and Community School at Reynolds (RCCSR), providing transportation to parents for key events at RCCSR such as PTO meetings, wellness workshops, Citizenship classes, and for meetings with new refugee families about the U.S. school system. This donation represents both ICCL’s and RCCSR’s commitment to removing barriers for refugees in Lancaster and supporting their integration by addressing transportation needs of parents and refugee families.
IU13 is proud to be the lead agency for the Refugee Center and Community School at Reynolds, whose mission is to engage community members in opportunities for education, integration, wellness, and work leading to self-sufficiency and enrichment.
Yard Sale for a Great Cause
Hundreds of yard-sale shoppers swarmed to the IU13 Lancaster Office parking lot on September 12th in search of treats and bargains – and fun! – at the Annual IU13 Social Workers Yard Sale. This event is the single largest fundraiser for the Social Work Fund, which benefits the students served in IU13 programs with much needed items including clothing and school supplies. Thanks to dozens of table-renting vendors and the many, many attendees, approximately $3,000 was raised!
Book Drive Reaps Reading Rewards
When the Books-A-Million store at Park City Center (Lancaster) set up a book drive in August to benefit IU13 classes, who would have thought that donations would be more than FIVE times the goal? But thanks to the generosity of the store and its many customers, the drive’s goal was shattered with over $3,600 in donations received … translating into HUNDREDS of books for students served by IU13. Now that’s a lot of reading fun!
