Message from the Executive Director

“Celebrate good times, come on!” Perhaps a Kool and the Gang reference shows my age, but the excitement and fun of that song are right on target for this time of year at IU13!

Far and Away - Roosevelt quoteProm, graduations, year-end events, reflections of the year’s accomplishments … it’s certainly a time for celebration, and that is what this issue of the IU13 Outlook is all about. I'm happy to share this "upbeat" news -- what you will find here is a collection of successes and heartwarming stories, all of which remind me that our work at IU13 is “Work Worth Doing.”

  • Follow the Yellow Brick Road to experience this year’s prom celebration for dozens of students with special needs!

  • Discover the excitement of students graduating with not simply a diploma but also with practical job skills – and in many cases, jobs!

  • Celebrate the commitment of hundreds of local businesses and employers who open their doors to help prepare students with disabilities for independent futures!

  • Be inspired by the dedication of students facing challenges with strength, perseverance, and the amazing support of families and educators!

Finally, this time of year provides a wonderful opportunity for reflection and a reminder that IU13 isn’t a building or a program – it’s an amazing team. Consider the words of Theodore Roosevelt …

Far and away the best prize that life has to offer is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.”

With 1,600+ employees, it’s hard to sum up all of the work done each year at IU13 in support of students, families, and our community. What I can tell you, though, is that IU13 is blessed with a hardworking, dedicated group of individuals whose work makes a difference every day. In addition to enjoying these energizing articles, please take a few minutes to discover the wide range of what “work worth doing” looks like at IU13 in this video – it, too, is a celebration!
