Elementary STEAM teams advance to Intermediate Unit 13 event
Eight teams of students in grades three and four participated in the annual District Elementary STEAM Bowl on Jan. 17.
Clay Elementary School’s fourth-graders finished at the top of that grade level; Highland was the winning third-grade team. Both will represent the district at the Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 STEM Bowl.
Prior to the Ephrata event, more than 650 students answered preliminary questions about science, technology, engineering, arts and math to determine who would represent their elementary schools on each team.
Third-grade team: Gabe Upham, Nate Pugh, Eva Ludwig and Charlotte Good; fourth, Brynn Raski, Kie Syzdek, Tristan Cox and Carson Martin.
Third, Emma Jahn, Armani Rivera, Emily Van Etten and Johnathan Wary; fourth, Lacie Green, Rae Leininger, Kloie Ricca and Taryn Shelly.
Third, Cody Shaffer, Tre Beres, Christian Wilkes and Traylynn Jones; fourth, Matthew Perciful, Ian Ellis, Braeden Mazzocchi and Jackson Gibson.
Third, Josiah Grant, Olivia Sensenig, Blake Manko and Christopher Sheckart; fourth, Skylar Moua, Caleb Rice, Liam Miller and Brennan Zucchi.
Lancaster-Lebanon Elementary STEM Bowl
The Annual Lancaster-Lebanon Elementary STEM Bowls are fast-paced quiz bowl-style competitions, complete with sophisticated buzzers, designed to showcase and apply 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students’ knowledge of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The event will consist of two components:
A Quiz Bowl style competition comprised of six 20-minute matches in which each team of four students will compete against another team to answer a series of toss-up questions and bonus questions, and hands-on design and problem-solving activities presented by the IU13 STEM Team.

Inclement Weather date - Thursday, March 28, 2019 – Grade level (TBD as needed)
