IU 13 class at Columbia Middle School learns about good citizenship
Students in Katelyn Burkhart’s Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 classroom at Columbia Middle School - Taylor Campus have been learning about the importance of police officers, and about being good citizens.
Following their lesson, they had the opportunity to meet with Officer Troy Engle, the Columbia Borough School District’s school resource officer.
Along with providing an overview of his daily routine as an SRO, Engle explained fines and jail time for poor behavior; the consequences of running away; penalties for making threats, stealing and fighting; and the unrealistic nature of video games and violence, according to an IU13 news release. He also discussed how to respect not only police officers, but also teachers and adults, and how behavior can impact one’s future.
The students participated in the discussion, and had many questions for Engle.
