Jae Davis Scholarship Application Window Now Open
February 17, 2023: Lancaster-Lebanon Intermediate Unit 13 (IU13) has opened the window for parents of children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder who are served by IU13, or one of its 22 constituent school districts, to apply for the Jae Davis Scholarship. This annual award of up to $1,500 per family sponsors parent attendance at the National Autism Conference, to be held at Penn State University in State College, PA from July 31 to August 3, 2023.
Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to attend seminars and networking sessions designed to inform and build a community. Sponsorship includes the conference registration fee, hotel expenses, meal reimbursement, and a childcare stipend. The application deadline is March 24, 2023.
The scholarship is named in memory of Jae Davis, the mother of a child with autism and a strong parent advocate. Jae created one of the first in-home programs in the United States for educating students with autism. Experts, educators, students, parents, and policymakers sought her advice, guidance, and innovative therapies. She set up one of the first intern programs for undergraduate and graduate students from Franklin and Marshall College, Millersville University, and Penn State University to work in the home. Additionally, she lobbied at the federal, state, and local levels for classrooms for children with autism, developed therapies for children, and counseled parents. Upon her death, she was honored by many autism programs.
