Welcome to your first steps in the Adopt-a-Middle School Project. We are thrilled to have you as part of Cohort #3. Even though we will not begin implementing our Project Based Learning Experience until next school year, we are excited to begin the learning process with you along with New Tech Network. Students use learning outcome rubrics to set goals, while teachers facilitate interactive lessons that allow for observation of student performance through the lenses of the learning outcomes. Students also reflect upon their own performance at the end of each lesson. Outside of the classroom, teachers use collaboration protocols to share and refine their lesson plans. The Learning Outcomes lay the foundation for transforming classroom learning to be student-centered and project-based. By beginning to incorporate the learning outcomes into their teaching, Cohort 3 will be building their skills to shift to project-based learning the following year. By the end of the workshop, teachers will have designed a bookend lesson and developed a plan for implementing the lesson. After using bookend lessons several times in the classroom, students will have awareness of and show more focus on collaboration, communication and agency learning outcomes.
