2026 Annie Sullivan Award Recipient Announced

LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA – Lancaster-Lebanon IU13 has named Dr. Caitlin Bennyhoff as the recipient of the 2026 Annie Sullivan Award. Dr. Bennyhoff is a school psychologist with IU13’s ATTEND program. Named after Helen Keller’s lifelong teacher and companion, the award is presented to a professional who portrays exemplary care to students with disabilities, while going beyond the classroom to help those in the community at large. The awarded professional is nominated by his or her peers and selected by a committee of past award recipients. It is considered one of the highest honors given to special education professionals.

Dr. Bennyhoff’s colleagues noted that she exemplifies leadership through action, demonstrating unwavering dedication to equity, accessibility, and student success. Known for her tireless work ethic and commitment to doing what is right, she consistently goes above and beyond to strengthen programs and support students, staff, and families.

Her contributions to the ATTEND program—a support service that addresses attendance concerns and their related behaviors in school-aged students (ages 5-21)—have been instrumental to program growth and stability, from securing grants that expand Parent Coaching training to stepping in during staffing shortages to ensure uninterrupted student progress. A recognized expert in school attendance, multi-tiered systems of support, and specialized programming, Dr. Bennyhoff provides consultation and training at the local, state, and national levels.

Through her mentorship, scholarship, and advocacy, Dr. Bennyhoff has bridged research and practice, advancing the field of education and establishing herself as a respected leader across Pennsylvania and beyond.
