Teaching and Learning Collaborative Professional Learning Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in partnering with IU13’s Teaching and Learning Collaborative (TLC) to facilitate professional learning experiences for you or your team. Our consultants have expertise in all areas of teaching and learning, including planning (curriculum), facilitating (instruction), and measuring (assessment) — in addition to leadership and school improvement. Further, our content specialists are poised to provide focused support in literacy, gifted/enrichment services, STEM, social studies, and instructional technology.

Gifted Education Network Meetings

Gifted and Enrichment Services/ IS

These half-day job-alike gatherings will be facilitated by IU13 and open to any staff invested in supporting the academic growth of gifted/advanced learners and complying with Chapter 16 regulations. A key component of each meeting will be time set aside for collaboration with grade-level, job-alike colleagues. District/school staff will also...
These half-day job-alike gatherings will be facilitated by IU13 and open to any staff invested in supporting the academic growth of gifted/advanced learners and complying with Chapter 16 regulations. A key component of each meeting will be time set aside for collaboration with grade-level, job-alike colleagues. District/school staff will also have the option to plan as a team during a portion of the meeting. Communication for the Gifted Network will primarily take place through Schoology, and anyone interested may join this Group for updates, resources, and discussions. The access code is FBGZM-ZHCMD. Registration will be required for each meeting for planning and Act 48 purposes. There is NO COST for IU13 district and nonpublic school staff to participate in network meetings.

Timed to coincide with the Gifted Network meetings, IU13 will provide a professional development series specifically designed to connect educators with experts in the field of gifted education. These half-day Gifted Education Workshops will focus on current best practices in gifted education and be led by national experts. Chapter 16 requires that staff receive professional development in gifted education, and Schoology will be used to share information and build collaboration across districts. Act 48 will be provided for those who attend and complete required evaluations. When possible, hybrid options for attendance will be arranged. The membership fee for this annual series is $100 for the first staff member from a district. Additional staff can be added for $80 each. Yet, what do we really mean when we talk about this type of questioning, and what does it look like in action? How can we work on doing it as well as possible to promote high levels of student thinking? And how do we make sure we aren't the ones asking all the questions? This workshop explores some of what we know about asking questions, listening to answers, encouraging student questions, and fostering inquiry as key components of engaging strong thinking and discourse in the classroom.

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the twice exceptional profile - a child identified as gifted with learning differences. After learning best practice and strength-based strategies to bring out the best and raise self-confidence in 2e learners, educators will have the opportunity to drill down into why 2e learners often present with emotional dysregulation and how best to address challenging behaviors. Participants will work together in small groups to answer questions and identify challenges. Sharing their small group findings with the larger group, educators will have the opportunity to workshop with Ms. Skolnick to address struggles and gain strategies to use in their classrooms.
